Aston Carter is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our client’s team on a one-year contract in Burnaby, BC, with a strong possibility of extension. In this role, you will play a key part in preparing monthly financial statements, supporting quarterly and annual reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for:
- Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including consolidations and note disclosures.
- Oversee general ledger (G/L) account reconciliations, continuously optimizing accuracy and efficiency in the financial reporting cycle.
- Evaluate and recommend new accounting policies according to ASPE, NPO accounting, and IFRS standards.
- External Reporting
- Prepare working papers for quarterly and annual reporting to external regulators and assist with tax compliance filings.
- Reconcile results and schedules, including quota share reporting and portfolio transfers, while facilitating external actuaries’ review for fiscal year-end results.
- Audit & Internal Controls
- Assist in completing external audits by preparing the annual working paper package for external auditors.
- Recommend action plans to address audit findings, mitigate control failures, and improve reconciliation processes.
Qualifications
Must-Haves:
- 4 years of accounting experience.
- 1-2 years of Canadian accounting experience.
- Knowledge of IFRS 17 reporting standards.
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
Nice-to-Haves:
- CPA designation.
- Experience with IFRS implementation.
- Tax experience (both indirect and corporate).
- Attention to detail and ability to manage large data volumes effectively.
