Responsibilities

As a Hockey Skills Coach at Apex Hockey, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting on-ice training sessions to help players improve their skating, stickhandling, shooting, and overall gameplay.
  • Developing and executing detailed practice plans to meet individual and team goals, focusing on both technical skills and game strategy.
  • Evaluating player performance throughout the season, tracking progress, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Providing constructive feedback to players and communicating performance insights with both players and their parents.
  • Collaborating with coaching staff to implement Apex Hockey’s biomechanical and sport-science-driven training approach, ensuring consistency across all training programs.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills: The ability to effectively communicate with players, parents, and coaching staff is critical.
  • Hockey expertise: You should have experience playing at the junior level or higher, ensuring you can demonstrate advanced techniques and strategies to players.
  • Coaching experience: Proven ability to develop and execute training plans that focus on improving both individual and team performance.
  • Performance evaluation skills: Ability to assess players’ skills and provide detailed feedback to support their growth.
  • Coaching certifications: While certifications in hockey coaching or a related field are preferred, they are not mandatory.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Background check: Candidates must be able to pass a background check as part of the hiring process.
