As a Warehouse Assistant at the Canadian Red Cross, you will play a key role in supporting our mission through various warehouse operations. Your daily duties will include:
1. Material Handling
- Safely operate material handling equipment like narrow aisle reach trucks, sit-down counterbalance lifts, and electric pallet trucks to transport materials around the warehouse.
- Load and unload materials from trucks, ensuring efficient movement of goods throughout the warehouse.
- Repalletize and consolidate stock to maintain an organized warehouse.
- Perform wrapping, strapping, weighing, and measuring duties to ensure materials are ready for shipment or storage.
2. Warehouse and Inventory Management
- Develop proficiency in software like Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Excel to assist in inventory management and warehouse operations.
- Conduct regular inventory counts, track stock levels, and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
- Support stock rotation and ensure materials are stored and dispatched according to the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) or First Expiry, First Out (FEFO) methods.
- Receive, verify, and inspect shipments of medical and non-medical supplies, ensuring they meet quality control standards.
- Report low stock levels to supervisors to avoid shortages.
3. Kitting and Packing Support
- Refill inventory locations and ensure materials are available for picking.
- Pick materials according to picking lists and organize them in the kitting area for assembly.
- Assist in packing materials and keeping diligent records using inventory management software.
- Manage expiry dates by performing regular checks and transferring expired stock to quarantine.
4. Maintenance and Safety
- Follow Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Report safety concerns and damaged equipment to supervisors promptly.
- Ensure the maintenance and inspection of warehouse equipment, including material handling machinery like reach trucks and pallet trucks.
5. Logistics Unit Support
- Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for warehouse operations.
- Assist with other warehouse functions as needed, offering flexibility in supporting different tasks and projects.
Qualifications for the Warehouse Assistant Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated individual who can thrive in a team environment. The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least 2 years of experience in operating a narrow aisle reach truck and supporting inventory management activities in a warehouse setting.
- Certification in material handling equipment, specifically for narrow aisle reach trucks and sit-down counterbalance lifts, or the ability to obtain recertification with the Canadian Red Cross.
- Valid first aid certification or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience with warehouse management software and familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics is an asset.
- Strong math and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Previous experience in a volunteer or humanitarian organization, such as the Red Cross, is a plus.
- Fluent communication skills in English are essential, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment.
Working Conditions
- Most of the duties will be performed in a warehouse environment.
- Physical tasks, such as lifting materials up to 75 lbs, will be required.
- Flexible working hours may be needed, including the possibility of working non-traditional hours on short notice.
- You will need to pass a pre-employment screening, which includes an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC).
