FO -TMA 24R – Senior Financial Analyst, Wholesale

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis in British Columbia, operating retail brands like BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores. As part of the BC Public Service, the LDB contributes to the province’s goals of improving services, sustainability, and public wellbeing by generating revenue that supports essential services such as healthcare and education.

The Senior Financial Analyst for the Wholesale Division plays a key role in driving financial planning, analysis, and decision-making to support operational success. This position provides expert advice on budget development, financial reporting, and performance metrics. Duties

The Senior Financial Analyst’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Budget Development & Management: Leading the budget development process for the Wholesale Division, ensuring accurate forecasting and financial planning.
  • Financial Reporting: Preparing and presenting financial reports, performance metrics, and variance analyses for division managers to guide decision-making.
  • Sales Forecasting: Assisting with sales forecasting by evaluating financial trends and market conditions.
  • Advisory Services: Providing financial advice and recommendations to senior management, including analysis on key performance indicators (KPIs) and process improvements.
  • Analytical Assignments: Conducting detailed financial analysis to support division operations, cost management, and strategic initiatives.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Working closely with other finance teams and wholesale division leaders to ensure alignment on financial goals and priorities.

Requirements

Education:

  • A Canadian professional accounting designation (CPA) in good standing is required. (Please specify the year of admission into the CPA program.)
  • If your designation was earned outside of Canada, ensure it has been evaluated for equivalency by an applicable Canadian Accounting Association.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of recent, related experience (within the last 7 years) in:
    • Budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
    • Preparing business cases and performance reports.
    • Conducting variance analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in providing financial advice, including KPI analysis and process improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis tools such as Excel, business intelligence tools, and data visualization software.
  • Experience in building financial models, dashboards, and reports.
  • Experience within the beverage alcohol industry or related fields like supply chain/logistics or wholesale/retail distribution.
  • Familiarity with working in complex business environments that involve large data sets, multiple product lines, or ERP systems.
