Distribution Manager

Sheridan Nurseries is seeking a Distribution Manager to oversee and optimize distribution and assembly activities across our Georgetown, Ontario facility and other farm locations. Reporting to the Vice President, Nursery Operations, this role ensures operational excellence, staff performance, and compliance with budget guidelines while maintaining our facilities and equipment.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Operational Management:
    • Direct daily distribution and assembly activities to ensure high service levels within budget.
    • Oversee quality control for assembly, loading, and delivery processes.
    • Implement methods to enhance operational efficiency and cost savings.
  2. Leadership & Collaboration:
    • Drive a culture of accountability and continuous improvement through performance metrics.
    • Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing, and Growing Departments to ensure customer satisfaction.
  3. Budget & Reporting:
    • Develop and manage the annual operating budget.
    • Recommend capital expenditures and monitor project costs.
    • Prepare and analyze performance reports, presenting insights during management meetings.
  4. Vendor Relations:
    • Negotiate with external vendors to optimize maintenance and rental costs.
  5. Staff Management:
    • Manage hiring, staffing, and training within the distribution department.
    • Ensure the team operates safely and adheres to company policies and health standards.
  6. Safety & Compliance:
    • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience in motivating teams and driving results.
  • Operational Expertise: Strong background in distribution, shipping, or logistics, with experience in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Communication: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays during seasonal peaks.

Assets:

  • Horticulture experience is an asset but not mandatory.
  • Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license (if driving is required).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking.
