Responsibilities
As a Family Law Legal Assistant/Law Clerk, you will play a key role in our Private Client Practice Group by:
- Drafting Correspondence: Create clear and concise letters and documents for clients and lawyers to ensure effective communication.
- Preparing Court Documents: Assemble briefs, motions (including 14B motions), divorce applications, and other legal documents to support court proceedings.
- Managing Client Appointments: Schedule and coordinate client meetings and court appearances, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
- Filing and Document Management: Handle the service and filing of court documents, maintaining organized records in DivorceMate and our document management system, MatterSphere.
- Proofreading and Formatting: Review all documentation for grammar, spelling, and accuracy to uphold the firm’s high standards.
- Handling Financial Disclosures: Prepare Certificates of Financial Disclosure and Financial Statements as needed.
- Additional Duties: Perform various other tasks as required to support the team and ensure client satisfaction.
Qualifications
To excel in this position, you should meet the following qualifications:
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal firm, specifically in family law.
- Certification: Legal Assistant/Law Clerk certification from a recognized institution.
- Knowledge of Court Practices: Familiarity with filing rules and practices across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, DivorceMate, and Adobe.
- Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage time effectively and diary tasks.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy in all tasks, ensuring high-quality work.
