Unit Clerk, Oncology Clinic – BC Cancer Prince George

Responsibilities

As a Unit Clerk at BC Cancer Prince George, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing Clinical Orders: You will transcribe and process clinician orders, utilizing our electronic health record system to schedule tests and services accurately. You will ensure that all relevant patient information is communicated promptly according to established procedures.
  • Coordinating Appointments: You will organize diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients by coordinating interrelated appointments. Clear communication with patients regarding their appointments will be crucial, whether in person, over the phone, or via mail.
  • Facilitating Patient Flow: You will gather and prepare essential patient information for medical appointments, supporting a seamless patient experience. This includes requesting, receiving, and transporting patient information to the appropriate clinical areas.
  • Reception Duties: Your role will involve a variety of receptionist tasks, such as greeting and registering patients, assisting with wayfinding, and managing phone inquiries with a warm and professional approach.
  • Supporting Staff Orientation: Participate in the onboarding and training of new staff by demonstrating work procedures and answering questions, ensuring everyone feels welcome and prepared.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should meet the following qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of Grade 12 and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Skills:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact positively with patients, families, and staff.
    • Proficiency in keyboarding (minimum 40 w.p.m.) and familiarity with various software applications.
    • Ability to carry out physical duties related to the position.
  • Cultural Awareness: Commitment to understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and familiarity with Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism principles.

Candidates with knowledge of the social, economic, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities will be given preference.
