Responsibilities
In this dynamic role, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Quality Control Testing: Conduct tests on raw materials, packaging, chemical intermediates, and finished products to maintain high-quality standards.
- Product Development: Engage in laboratory bench work for product development, collaborating with the sales and operations teams to drive new product initiatives.
- Raw Material Sourcing: Identify and vet new suppliers or alternative raw materials and packaging to support formulation development.
- Specification Development: Establish testing specifications, particularly for new products, to ensure they meet company and industry standards.
- Collaboration with Manufacturing: Work closely with manufacturing operations to oversee trial batches and enhance production processes.
- Innovation and Optimization: Seek innovative methods to improve formulations and optimize batch processes to increase efficiency.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized laboratory space in line with Sluyter’s Health and Safety standards.
- Customer Support: Understand product formulations and applications, providing customers with informed advice regarding usage and potential issues.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Develop, adapt, and maintain SOPs for the laboratory to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned to support the team and company goals.
Qualifications
To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications:
- Education: A college diploma in Chemistry or a related field is required, with a focus on lubricants, silicone, and solvent-based formulations preferred.
- Experience: Relevant experience in formulating within the chemical industry and laboratory testing is essential.
- Technical Skills: A solid foundation in chemistry with a strong technical background and proficiency in computer applications.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and customers.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to tackle challenges as they arise.
