Responsibilities
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will play a key role in supporting the health and recovery of patients. Your primary responsibilities include:
- Provide respiratory care: Perform diagnostic assessments, therapeutic interventions, and patient follow-ups for adults, children, and infants.
- Support critical care efforts: Assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and manage patients on mechanical ventilation.
- Manage airways: Ensure effective airway management and provide evaluation and care based on physician recommendations.
- Collaborate with medical teams: Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to develop treatment strategies and set patient care goals.
- Maintain documentation: Complete reports, records, and workload statistics to meet departmental standards.
- Equipment management: Monitor and maintain respiratory equipment, including calibration, cleaning, and quality control checks.
- Drive quality improvements: Help develop patient materials, assessment forms, and program descriptions to enhance care delivery.
- Deliver in-service education: Provide training and education to students, staff, and the community to build respiratory therapy skills.
- Participate in committees: Contribute to departmental discussions and problem-solving initiatives.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should have:
- Education & Certification:
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam.
- Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).
- Required Certifications:
- Current CPR Level C certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a collaborative environment.
- Organizational skills to manage workloads and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Competence in operating respiratory equipment and performing technical procedures.
